What is Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf)?
Devin Desktop is the new name for the Windsurf editor, which Cognition rebranded on June 2, 2026. It keeps the full Windsurf IDE, including extensions, keybindings and workflows compatible with Windsurf and VS Code, but makes an Agent Command Center the default view: a Kanban-style board for managing local and cloud coding agents. Its local agent, Devin Local, succeeded the Cascade agent, and the app supports third-party agents through the open Agent Client Protocol. Cognition says existing Windsurf plans and pricing carried over unchanged. A free plan with a light quota is available alongside paid plans. It suits developers who want to orchestrate several agents.
